Subject of email received: Outbound Notification Blocked Email Summary

Environment

Cause

To ensure the reliability, security, and performance of our email system, we are implementing sending limits for emails.

Here’s why this change is essential:

  1. Preventing Spam and Abuse: Setting limits helps protect our domain reputation by reducing the risk of unauthorized use or accidental spam-like activity.  This prevents USD email from being blocked by services like GMAIL.
  2. Ensuring Deliverability: High email volumes can trigger spam filters, causing delays or rejections. Limits help maintain efficient and successful email delivery.
  3. Enhancing Security: Restricting large-scale email sends minimizes exposure to phishing attacks and misuse of accounts if they are compromised.
  4. Fair Resource Use: Limits ensure equitable access to resources, preventing email system slowdowns for everyone.

The limit of, 500 recipients per message, is designed to support your communication needs while protecting the email ecosystem.  Thank you for your understanding and cooperation in keeping our email system secure and efficient.

Resolution

  1. Exceeding the current protection settings will block outbound mail for the sender
    1. If you need to send to more than 500 recipients please request a LISTSERV list.
    2. Request Marketing to facilitate an email to faculty and staff, current students and/or prospective students
