How do I connect to the USD network while traveling?

Need access to remote desktop to my office computer

How do I use Imagenow (Perceptive Content) off campus?

Is it possible to use macOS' built-in VPN client to connect to USD's VPN?

• Virtual Private Network (VPN)
• Windows 11
• MacOS 
• Cisco Secure Client

Note: USD's approved VPN Client is Cisco Secure Client

Installing VPN Client

1. Download VPN
   • Windows Client Download
   • MacOS Client Download
2. Run the installer once it is downloaded
3. Click Next to install the Cisco VPN Client
4. Select I accept on the license agreement
5. Click Next
6. Click Install
7. Click Finish

Connecting for the first time

Note:  Due to current capacity limitations, please only connect to the VPN when using an application that requires VPN.  Be sure to disconnect from the VPN when you are no longer using that service.

1. Ensure computer is connected to the internet
2. Open Cisco Secure Client
3. Type bast.usd.edu
4. Click Connect
5. Ensure Group is showing usdvpn
6. Type your USD Username and Password
   Note: This is not your USD email address.  It will be either just first.last or the older username format of a max of 8 characters consisting of your first initial and last name
   1. You will be required to use Duo multi-factor authentication
      1. a push is sent to your registered device
         Note: You will not receive a Duo prompt on the screen, only on your registered Duo device. If you don't see a notification on your device, try opening the Duo app.
7. Click Accept

Alternately, you can do this

1. Open Duo app on smart phone
2. Touch Duo-Protected University of South Dakota
   1. Take note of passcode displayed
3. Open the Cisco Secure Client on your computer
4. Make certain bast.usd.edu is populated
5. Click Connect
6. Ensure Group is showing usdvpn
7. Enter your user name and password
8. After your password type a comma and the passcode displayed on your phone (example xxxxxxxx,948233)
9. Click OK

To connect to On-Campus Computer:

Windows to Windows PC: : Connecting to Work Computer Remotely using Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP)

Remote Desktop Software is not installed on University Owned Mac's by default.  Install Microsoft Remote Desktop from the Apple App Store
