Environment

  • USD Work Computer
  • Working Remotely
  • Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP)

Cause

Some resources are restricted and can only be accessed from your work station 

Resolution

Connecting to Computer

Note: Cisco AnyConnect must be successfully authenticated to access office computer or you must be on the USD network

  1. Find the Computer Name of the computer you wish to connect to
  2. From your current computer, open the Windows Remote Desktop Connection app
    1. Click Run or Search
    2. Type MSTSC
    3. Press Enter
  3. Type in the Computer Name obtained in Step 1
    Note: This can be the "NI" tag or IP address of the office computer
    Note: The computer you are connecting to must be turned on
  4. To connect multiple monitors if computer you are using and computer connecting to both have multiple monitors:
    1. Click Show Options
    2. Click Display
    3. Click to check Use all my monitors for the remote session
  5. Click Connect
  6. Enter your USD Credentials
    Note:  If using a personal computer you may have to click More Choices and enter usdlocal\  in front of your USD username
  7. Press Enter
    Note: 
    If asked to accept the certificate, check Don't ask me again for connections to this computer
  8. Click Yes

To Disconnect

  1. Right-Click on the icon on your Task Bar
  2. Click Disconnect
