Issue/Question
- How do I connect to the USD network while traveling
- Need access to remote desktop to my office computer
- Receiving Network Security Alert
- How do I use Imagenow (Perceptive Content) off campus
- Is it possible to use macOS' built-in VPN client to connect to USD's VPN
Environment
- Virtual Private Network (VPN)
- Windows Operating systems
- Mac OSX
- Cisco AnyConnect
Cause
Faculty, Staff and Students require access to resource that can only be accessed from USD network
Resolution
Note: VPN is only available from an off-campus connection. If you are attempting to connect while on campus and connected to a USD network, the connection will fail. Additionally you must be coming from a US based IP address. Students and those traveling internationally will require an approved request to use VPN. Submit your request at Service - VPN Remote Access
Note: USD's approved VPN Client is Cisco AnyConnect
Installing VPN Client
- Download VPN
- Run the installer once it is downloaded
- Click Next to install the Cisco VPN Client
- Select I accept on the license agreement
- Click Next
- Click Install
- Click Finish
Connecting for the first time
Note: Due to current capacity limitations, please only connect to the VPN when using an application that requires VPN. Be sure to disconnect from the VPN when you are no longer using that service.
- Ensure computer is connected to the internet
- Open Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility
- Type Bast.usd.edu
- Click Connect
- Type your USD Username and Password
Note: This is not your USD email address. It will be either just first.last or the older username format of a max of 8 characters consisting of your first initial and last name
- You will be required to use Duo multi-factor authentication
- a push is sent to your registered device
Note: You will not receive a Duo prompt on the screen, only on your registered Duo device
- Click Accept
