Creating a Template in Word

Question

How do I create a template in Word?

Answer

  1. Open a new, blank Word document
  2. Make whatever changes you want (margin settings, page size and orientation, styles, etc.)
  3. You can also add instructional text, content controls such as a date picker, and graphics that you want to appear in all new documents that you base on the template
  4. If you insert a Date & Time command (in the Text group in the Insert tab), the date and time will automatically be updated with the current date into the new document you are working with
  5. When you have your template set up how you want:
    1. Click File tab
    2. click Save As
      1. When the Save As dialog box open you can name your template
      2. You must also remember to select Word Template in the Save as type list
    3. Then, click Save
