Sorting Tables in Word

Question

How can I sort my table in Word?

Answer

You can sort the rows in a table based on the contents of one of the columns. Rows can be sorted in Ascending or Descending order based on alphabetical, numerical, or chronological criterion.

  • Click anywhere in your table.  In the Table Tools tab, select Layout sub-tab
  • In the Data group, click on A to Z Sort
  • The Sort dialog box opens. Select the options you need in order to sort your table properly
    • Please note that you can select whether your table has a header row. In order for you to be able to use your header row categories, the header row needs to be in Row 1
