My favorites are gone in my browser after updating to Windows 10

Publisher files are trying to open in Adobe Acrobat

PDF files disappear a few seconds after I open them

JPEG and PNG files want to open in Adobe Acrobat not Photos

Environment

  • Microsoft Windows 10

Cause

Windows 10 sets default applications as the Microsoft applications

Windows 10 updates can reset the default applications back to the Microsoft applications

Resolution

Change default applications:

  1. Click
  2. Click
  3. Click Apps
  4. Click Default Apps
  5. Click the default you want to set, and then choose the application To choose default apps by file type, scroll down and click Choose default apps by file type
  6. Search for file type such as .pdf

If the file type does not show up on the list, please follow these steps:

  1. Open up Windows File Explorer
  2. Navigate to the file you would like to change the program on
  3. Right Click the file
  4. Click Properties
  5. Click Change...
  6. Choose the application you would like to use
