Obtaining MAC Address on a Device

Issue/Question

I need to get my MAC (Media Access Control) address

Environment

  • Microsoft Windows
  • Apple MacOS
  • Google Android
  • Apple iOS
  • Chrome OS

Resolution

Note: MAC address will be in this format  A1:B2:C3:D4:E5:F6, with or without symbols separating the characters

Microsoft Windows

  1. Press
  2. Type Command Prompt
  3. Click on Command Prompt
  4. Type getmac /v
  5. The Connection Name and Physical Address for the Wireless Adapter should be listed
    Note: The MAC Address is listed under Physical Address

Apple macOS

  1. Click
  2. Select System Preferences
  3. Click Network
  4. Select Wi-Fi from the list
  5. Click Advanced
  6. Select the Hardware tab
  7. The MAC Address should be listed

Google Chromebook

  1. Open Chrome
  2. In the address bar, type chrome://system 
  3. Press ENTER
  4. Look for ifconfig and click Expand...
  5. For the wired MAC address, look for the eth0 section
  6. For the wireless MAC address, look for the wlan0 section

Google Android

  1. Open Android Settings
  2. Select About Phone
  3. Select Status
  4. The MAC Address should be listed under Wi-Fi MAC address

Apple iOS

  1. Open Settings
  2. Select General
  3. Select About
  4. The MAC Address should be listed under Wi-Fi Address

Other Devices

  1. The address may be located in Settings under Wireless or Network
  2. If you cannot locate the address under settings
    1. Start Mobile Hotspot on an Android phone
    2. Connect the device to the Hotspot network using the SSID and Password of the Hotspot
    3. Once the device connects, the phone should show a connected device and list the MAC address
