Moving files from OneDrive for Business (school) to my personal OneDrive account

Issue/Question

I graduated from university so my OneDrive Business account will be deactivated soon. I'm trying to move my files to my personal OneDrive account.

Resolution

Note: We recommend copying the files to another location such as a USB drive on your PC to back them up before starting 

  1. Unlink your university account, by following the steps in this guide Turn off, disable, or uninstall OneDrive
    1. Windows
      1. Open OneDrive settings (select the OneDrive cloud icon in your notification area, and then select the OneDrive Help and Settings icon  then Settings.)
      2. Go to the Account tab
      3. Select Unlink this PC.​​​​​​
    2. macOS
      1. Click the OneDrive cloud icon up in your Menu bar, click the three dots  to open the menu, and select Preferences
      2. Go to the Account tab
      3. Select Unlink this PC
  2. Then you can sign into your personal account and copy the files back into that OneDrive account if needed
