What is another way to have people watch a live Zoom meeting?

Alternative to a Zoom Webinar?

Environment

• Zoom
• Panopto

• Webcast

Resolution

Note: Viewers are watching a live stream, Registration must be done outside of Zoom and a link must be sent to the viewers

Panopto - this can be done any time prior to meeting

1. Open Panopto at http://usd.hosted.panopto.com
2. If you are not setup as a Creator in Panopto
   1. Email ceddn@usd.edu
   2. Ask for a department folder for this event
   3. Identify the host for the meeting
3. Click Create
4. Choose Webcast
5. Enter Webcast information
   1. Name
   2. Folder
   3. Description
   4. Click Create
6. Click Manage
7. Under Webcast Type - choose RTMP Source
   1. Later you will need to copy Server URL:   rmtp://xxxxxxxxx
   2. Later you will need to copy Stream Keys and types:  xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
8. Click on Overview
   1. Later you will need to copy the Viewer link:  https://xxxxxxxxxx
   2. Discussion - uncheck to disable comments for the viewers
9. The Panopto link will need to be set based on your audience
   1. Click on Settings Share
      • If it is university viewers - it can be set to anyone at your institution with the link
      • If they are not affiliated with the university - it will need to be set to anyone with the link - no sign in required

Zoom - this can be done any time prior to meeting

1. These steps must be done the first time only for your account.
   1. Log into Zoom at http://usd.zoom.us
   2. Settings - in Meeting (Advanced)
   3. Turn on Allow live streaming of meetings
   4. Check Custom Live Streaming Service
2. Schedule the meeting you are planning to live-stream
3. Click Save
4. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click live streaming
5. Click Configure Live stream settings
6. Copy the following from steps 7 & 8 above and paste into this new window
   • Streaming URL from 7a
   • Stream key from 7b 
   • Viewer link from 8a

Send Zoom link to Zoom participants
Send Viewer link (Panopto link) to viewers

Start Zoom meeting

1. In your Zoom meeting
   1. Click MORE
   2. Chose LIVE on Custom Live Streaming Service (this starts the Panopto Webcast)
   3. Start live CC in Zoom (if you want to use this feature) - must have previously enabled auto CC
