Installing a Network Printer at Sites Without Print Server

Issue/Question

How do I install a network printer on a remote site that does not have access to a print server.

Environment

  • Windows

Resolution

Note: Installing a printer direct to IP is only used in certain cases.  Verify that you cannot communicate with the main print server at USD Vermillion before proceeding.

Those cases include but may not be limited to

  • no local printer server at the site (RC Med, SDSD, etc)
  • certain special printers that may only function correctly when setup directly via IP.

Installing Instructions

  1. Right-click
  2. Click Search
  3. Type Printers & Scanners
  4. Click on the result
  5. Click Add a printer or scanner
  6. Click The printer that I want isn't listed
  7. Check Add a local printer or network printer with manual settings

  15.  Select correct printer model driver from the list
Note: If you have a disk, click have disk, if not, run Windows update or download correct driver from the manufacturer's website

  17.  Click Next
  18.  Select Do not share this printer
