First Day Access (FDA) charge

Issue/Question

I see a First Day Access charge listed on my student university account, what is it for?

Why is the First Day Access charge on my student university account different than what is listed in the bookstore?

What does the First Day Access charge include?

Is the First Day Access charge included in my tuition?

Can I use a bookstore voucher to pay for the First Day Access charge?

Environment

Cause

First Day Access (FDA) is a course material delivery model where faculty adopt an eBook or Courseware, and the digital content is sent automatically to students on or before the first day of class. The cost of the material is applied directly to the student's regular university bill as a separate line item charge, along with tuition and fees. The materials are shown in the bookstore but the student is not billed through the bookstore.

Resolution

  1. FDA course material may be an eBook or Courseware. Learn more about Accessing First Day Access (FDA) Materials
  2. FDA course material charge:
    • Automatically added to student's university bill when enroll in FDA course
    • Not included in tuition
    • A separate line-item charge added onto the student's university bill
    • If enrolled in more than one FDA course, multiple line-item charges will appear on the student's university bill at possible different costs
    • FDA charge on the student's university bill includes sales tax so will be different than the FDA cost listed in the student's online bookstore account
  3. The Book Advance or other online bookstore voucher cannot be used to pay for FDA course material
  4. If you do not need digital access, you can elect to opt-out of using the FDA material by the deadline
