Answer

Evacuation Plan

In the event that Vucurevich Childcare Center Building must be evacuated, the procedures in this plan shall be followed.

  • Upon activation of the fire alarms, all staff, volunteers, and children within the Building will immediately exit the building through the nearest available exit route.
    • Prior to leaving the room, any open fires, kitchen equipment, or similar items should be turned off. 
    • Electrical equipment that cannot be left unattended for prolonged periods should also be turned off prior to exiting the room. 
    • The Front Desk Attendant will print the attendance report, emergency contact information for each child, and staff members schedule for accounting purposes. 
    • Each classroom teacher will take a first aid kit (fanny packs) from each classroom, which also contains emergency contact information for each child in the event that the Front Desk Attendant is separated from the group. 
    • Each classroom teacher and teacher’s assistant will assure that the children are evacuated from each classroom.
    • Designated persons from each area will quickly survey the area to assure that evacuation is in progress or completed.  
  • The following persons have been designated for each area:
    • Kitchen/East Side of Building – Kitchen Staff
    • Central Area of Building – Front Desk Attendant
    • West Side of Building – Infant Teaching Staff Members
  • All staff, volunteers, and children within the Building will convene on the lawn to the North of the building to allow a quick assessment for missing persons and avoid interference with the emergency responders. 
  • In the event of severe weather conditions where shelter is desired, please move away from the Building and proceed inside either the Dakota Dome or Wellness Center Building for comfort and safety.
  • The Director or the Director’s designee will proceed to the front of the building to meet the Emergency responders and to ensure that no unauthorized persons enter the building.

 

Severe Weather Plan

  • In the event of severe weather alerts or tornado warnings, persons within the Building should immediately proceed to the restrooms using the fastest route available.  
  • If the restrooms are not available or cannot be reached safely, persons within the Building should immediately proceed to the nearest inner wall of the building away from windows and outside doors. 
  • Designated persons from each part of the building will quickly survey the area to assure that evacuation is in progress or has been completed.
  • The following persons have been designated for each area
    • Kitchen/East Side of Building – Kitchen Staff
    • Central Area of Building – Front Desk Attendant or Director
    • West Side of Building – Infant Teaching Staff Members

 

Long Term Evacuation Plan

(In conditions of immediate danger or evacuation exceeds 30 minutes.)

  • The Director or Director’s Designee will call the University Police Department at 5342 to assist the Center with transporting the children and staff members to the Wellness Center for a long term evacuation.  
  • Parents will be notified by email as well as phone calls on the details of the evacuation. 
  • If it is a campus wide evacuation, children will be transported to the National Guard Armory.
  • Staff members will assure that the children are evacuated to the grassy area by the East side of Parking lot. 
  • Staff member will take fanny pack, huddle blankets (in cold weather), emergency attendance from Child Care Manager, master key, and evacuation back pack
  • Staff members will assist children to safely board evacuation vehicles.
