Unable to Send Email to Student Classlist in Desire2Learn (D2L)

Issue/Question

When trying to send an email to the classlist in D2L I receive an error.  

Error: The email addresses of users could not be added.  Additional permissions are required to be able to send emails to these users.  Please contact your system administrator for access. 

Environment

  • Desire2Learn (D2L) 

Cause

The course is not active yet and therefore a message cannot be sent until it is in an active state

Resolution

  1.  Navigate to the course in D2L
  2.  Click Edit Course
  3.  Click Course Offering Information 
  4.  Click the box next to Course is Active
  5. Click Save
  6. You should now be able to send the message
