Laptop Not Producing Sound

Issue/Question

There is no sound coming from my system

I cannot hear audio from my docked laptop

Environment

• Laptop
• Lenovo T590
• Windows 10

Cause

Mute hotkey has been enabled on the docked laptop.  Muting and unmuting audio in Windows has no effect while hotkey is enabled.  Incorrect device chosen in sound settings

Resolution

1. Remove laptop from dock
2. Press mute hotkey on laptop to unmute device
   Note: Specific key may vary by laptop model
3. Test audio
4. If sound is still not working right click on the sound icon by the clock
5. Choose Open Sound Settings
6. Change the output device and test until you hear sound
7. If this is a Lenovo laptop
   1. Use a small paperclip to press the button in the tiny hole on the bottom of the laptop
