Cause

To support employees when working remotely, this page covers the technology and information you need to create a successful remote work environment.

Resolution

  1. ITS recommends using a University owned laptop to work remotely
Note: If using a USD laptop, you need to sign into the laptop while connected to the USD network before you can sign in off-site
    1. Test it at home to verify you have access to everything needed
    2. Recommended applications can be found at Teaching and Working Remotely
  2. To protect your data and USD's network, you must have access to each of these security and productivity tools and services
    1. Windows Security - Antivirus software is already configured on USD Windows computers
    2. Duo Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)
  3. Setup access to Virtual Private Network (VPN)
  4. We recommend a headset that can connect to your computer to reduce background noise and improve sound quality for meetings
  5. Internet Speed
    1. Test your internet connection from your remote location by going to www.speedtest.net
    2. Click GO
    3. 3 Mbps upload and 10 Mbps  download speeds are considered fast enough for typical work activities
      •  Maximum bandwidth consumption of Sending and Receiving Video:
        • High Definition Video: 2.5 Mbps  and 3.0 Mbps
        • High Quality Video: 1.0 Mbps  and 1.5 Mbps
        • Standard Quality Video: 0.5 Mbps  and 0.5 Mbps
