Adopting the Same Textbook for Multiple Courses

Issue/Question

• How can I adopt materials for multiple sections at once?
• Do I have to adopt the same book for each section?

Environment

• USD Instructors
• usd.textbookx.com
• USD Online Bookstore
• usd.edu/textbooks
• Akademos
• Faculty, instructors, department chairs

Cause

All sections need the same course materials

Resolution

1. Login to usd.textbookx.com with your university credentials
2. Click Courses
3. Click the course you want to add materials to
4. Under Add materials to your course, enter the ISBN or book title
5. Options are shown
6. Click the book needed
7. Click Adopt
   Note: if additional texts are needed in this course continue to add those materials
8. Continue through the menu bar
   1. Click Add course notes
   2. Add any notes
   3. Click Preview course to verify everything is correct
   4. Click Submit Course
9. Scroll down to view any additional course sections listed under Do you want to apply these same course updates the following matching sections?
10. Click Select All, to select all sections or individually checkmark the sections that should use the same materials
11. Click Apply to selected sections
12. Click Yes to update selected section
