Scheduling Reports in Cognos

Issue/Question

  • How do I schedule my Cognos reports?
  • How do I automate my reports in Cognos?

Resolution

Note: If you receive the error Your credentials are required to complete this operation, or reports you have scheduled start failing after you change your USD password, you must complete the following

  1. Log in to Cognos
  2. In the upper right, click on the Personal menu 
  3. Click on My preferences
  4. Click on the Personal tab
  5. Click on the Advanced section
  6. Find the Credentials line and cick Renew
  7. Enter your credentials and click the OK button
  8. THIS MUST BE DONE EACH TIME YOU CHANGE YOUR USD PASSWORD, IF YOU HAVE SCHEDULED REPORTS

Note:  You can only schedule a report if you have write access to the report folder in Cognos.  Report Consumers will need to create a report view to setup their own schedule.  

Report Consumers

  1. Click the to the right of the report you want
  2. Click Create Report View
  3. Select My Content folder
  4. Save as 'Report view of XXX Report MM/DD/YY'
  5. Select My Content Folder
  6. Find 'Report view of XXX Report MM/DD/YY
  7. Click the context menu 
  8. Click Properties
  9. Click the Schedule tab
  10. Click Create schedule
  11. Specify the schedule options
  12. Click Create

 

Report Writers

  1. Click the to the right of the report you want
  2. Click Properties
  3. Click the Schedule tab
  4. Click New
  5. Specify the schedule options
    1. For additional scheduling options click Classic View
    2. Specify your options
    3. Click OK
    4. Click Create
  6. The schedule entry will appears
  7. Further information to schedule Cognos reports

Note:  If you are going to attempt to schedule a report that is found in a Common report folder, you should create a scheduled job to run the report.
