Video Requiring Silverlight

Issue/Question

I am trying to watch a video and it requires Silverlight.

I am trying to watch exit exam videos and installing Silverlight does not work

Environment

• Desire2Learn
• Safari 
• Internet Explorer
• Mozilla Firefox
• Google Chrome

Cause

Some Videos provided for online learning may require Microsoft Silverlight to play.  Silverlight is no longer supported on the most recent versions of Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome

Resolution

1. Download and install Microsoft Silverlight

Internet Explorer

1. Click 
2. Select Manage add-ons
3. Select Microsoft Silverlight
4. Click Enable 

Firefox

Note:  Firefox ESR 52 (Extended Service Release) still supports Silverlight

1. Download Firefox 52 ESR for macOS
2. Install Firefox 52 ESR

Safari

Enabling Silverlight for Safari

Note: Safari, version 12+, does not support Silverlight

1. Click on Safari in the top left of Safari
2. Select Preferences
3. Select Security
4. Click Plug-in Setings...
5. Place a Check next to Silverlight

Enabling Silverlight for a specific website

1. Go to the video that requires Microsoft Silverlight
2. Click Click to user Silverlight
3. Click Use Every Time for the Would you like to user Silver on (website) pop up

Note: Google Chrome does not support Microsoft Silverlight
