Internet Explorer Will Not Open

Issue/Question

Internet Explorer will quickly flash on the screen and then close
I am unable to connect to Internet Explorer
I am unable to connect to IE
Internet Explorer will not open

Environment

• Windows 10
• Internet Explorer 11 (IE)

Cause

The most common causes of Internet Explorer crashes like this are toolbars, add-ons, or Browser Helper Objects

Resolution

1. Delete and recreate Internet Explorer shortcut
   1. Right click IE on Taskbar
   2. Select Unpin this program from taskbar
   3. Right click IE on Desktop
   4. Click Delete
   5. Press  
   6. Type Internet
   7. Right click Internet Explorer
   8. Select Pin to taskbar
   9. Repeat steps g and h
   10. Select Open file location
   11. Right click Internet Explorer
   12. Click Send to
   13. Select Desktop (create shortcut)
       Note: It is always a good idea to make a backup copy of your favorites prior to the resetting Internet Explorer
2. Make a back up copy of your Favorites
   1. Open the folder in the taskbar
   2. Navigate to C:\users\your profile name
   3. Right click Favorites
   4. Click copy
   5. Right click an open space in the Windows Explorer
   6. Click paste
3. Reset Internet Explorer
   1. Close all Internet Explorer and Windows Explorer windows
   2. Press the  + R
   3. At the Run window that comes up, type inetcpl.cpl
   4. Press Enter
   5. When Internet Options opens, Click Advanced tab.
   6. Look for Reset Internet Explorer Settings
   7. Click Reset
   8. When Internet Explorer finishes restoring the default settings, click Close
   9. Open Internet Explorer
      Note: If this does not work try step 4
4. Update video card drivers
5. Set Internet Explorer to run as an Administrator
   1. Click
   2. Type Internet Explorer
   3. Right click Internet Explorer
   4. Click Open File Location
   5. Right click Internet Explorer
   6. Click Properties
   7. Click Shortcut
   8. Click Advanced
   9. Select Run as administrator
   10. Click OK
   11. Click OK
