Issue with activating Office Pro Plus on a Mac

I am unable to activate Office on a Mac

Error: Your account ****.******** doesn't allow editing on a mac. To learn more, contact your Admin about your office plan.

Error: Unknown Error. An unknown error has occurred. The error code is: 0x0

Environment

  • Mac OS
  • Office Pro Plus
  • Office 365

Cause

Invalid Keychain stored on Mac

Old folders stored on Mac

Office needs updating

Resolution

  1. Close all Office programs
  2. Open Finder
  3. Open Applications
  4. Open Microsoft AutoUpdate
  5. Select Update All or Update next to individual apps
  6. Open Word
  7. Follow activation prompts
    Note: If this does not resolve the issue, proceed to step 8
  8. Download and run the License Removal Tool
  9. Open Word
  10. Follow activation prompts
    Note: If this does not resolve the issue, proceed to step 11
  11. Uninstall Office 365 from the Mac
  12. Click at top right of Desktop
  13. Type Keychain
  14. Select Keychain Access
  15. Search Office
  16. Delete all instances containing Office
  17. Click at top right of the Desktop
  18. Type ~\library\group containers\
  19. Open the folder location
  20. Open Containing Folder
  21. Select the following folders and drag them to the Trash
    1. UBF8T346G9.ms
    2. UBF8T346G9.Office
    3. UBF8T346G9.OfficeOsfWebHost
  22. Restart the Mac
  23. Install a fresh copy of Office 365
