Hardware Support


The ITS Service Desk provides support for purchasing, installation, configuration and troubleshooting of supported hardware and software. To ensure consistency of support, ITS will not provide support for hardware that is not on the standard support list; limited consultation may be available.

Minimum Hardware Supported

  • In an effort to provide a high level of service, ITS will not be able to repair PCs which are past their useful life
  • Currently ITS will support PCs with a processor speed of 1.6 Ghz or above
  • This standard will be re-evaluated before the beginning of each fiscal year
  • If replacement parts are available and time allows, ITS will attempt to repair older PCs when newer equipment is not available
  • Smartphones that use a version of a supported windows mobile operating system, iOS or Android

Hardware Warranty Support

  • ITS personnel are trained to provide warranty repairs on HP, Fujitsu and Lenovo PC's
  • ITS personnel are trained to provide warranty repairs on Apple PC's
  • Warranty repairs performed on USD-owned equipment will be performed at no charge
  • Warranty repairs performed on USD-owned non-recommended computer systems will have to follow the vendor's process for repairs,   ITS will assist in helping you get the repairs completed
  • An authorized service provider must perform HP printer warranty repairs. ITS can make arrangements for this work to be performed

Non-Warranty Hardware Support

  • ITS will make every reasonable effort to repair supported hardware not covered under manufacturer's warranty
  • ITS will perform standard preventative maintenance on qualified HP laserjet printers.
    Note: There may be a charge to the department for replacement parts on printers not covered under manufacturer's warranty. Labor will not be charged on supported HP laserjet printer hardware. 

Hardware ITS Will Not Repair

  • Personally owned hardware
  • Copiers
  • Fax Machines
  • Ink Jet printers will only be cleaned
  • Printers greater than 10 years of age
  • Monitors
Target Completion Date

Incidents (broken or not working right) within 3 business days
Service Requests (technology-related question) within 10-15 business days
