Question
How do I change rooms after the semester starts?
Can I change my assigned room during the academic year?
Can I change my roommate after move-in?
Who do I talk to about a room change?
Answer
- Whether or not students are able to request a room change during the academic year is dependent on the time of the academic year and University Housing's current occupancy.
- At the beginning of every semester and over breaks there are room change "freezes" until the first two weeks of the semester have finished. This means that the room change process is closed during that time.
- After the two week freeze, room changes may not be available if University Housing is at capacity.
- If the room change process is open, students will need to speak with their RA first to discuss a potential room change. University Housing trains RAs in roommate mediation and encourages mediation to occur before any room change.
- If a room change is necessary, the student's RA will facilitate the rest of the room change process on a case-by-case basis.
Note: Students that are unhappy with their roommate assignment may choose to switch room assignments, but should understand that the student requesting the change will have to move rooms. University Housing will not move a student's roommate out of their room space, as each student has an equal right to their chosen space.
