Changing External Monitor Resolution in macOS

Issue/Question

How do I change the resolution of my external monitor in macOS?

The screen looks fuzzy on my connected display.

Icons and applications look blurry on my external Monitor

Environment

  • macOS

Cause

Display resolution needs adjusted

Resolution

  1. Click
  2. Click System Preferences
  3. Click Displays
  4. Click Display
  5. Press and hold option key and click Scaled
    Note:      You will now be able to select additional resolutions for the external display
  6. Select desired resolution
