Why does my income on my W-2 not match my salary on my contract?

The income you see on your W-2 is your taxable income, not your total salary

1. The difference between your actual salary and your taxable income comes from:
   • Contributions to the retirement plans
   • Pre-tax benefits
   • Payroll deductions
