Updating macOS X Wifi settings

Issue/Question

My Mac keeps disconnecting from the wifi.

Environment

  • macOS X

Cause

Your laptop is trying to connect to a wireless access point that is not giving the strongest signal. 

Resolution

  1. Open Terminal
  2. Type sudo /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/Apple80211.framework/Versions/Current/Resources/airport prefs joinMode=Strongest
  3. Press Return key
  4. Enter your computer password if prompted for Password:
  5. Press Return key
  6. Type sudo /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/Apple80211.framework/Versions/Current/Resources/airport prefs joinModeFallback=keeplooking
  7. Press Return key
  8. Enter your computer password if prompted for Password:
  9. Press Return key
  10. Close Terminal
