Disable MAC Address Randomization

Issue/Question

Wireless network connection dropping

Apple Important Notice: A setting on your Apple iOS prevents Wi-Fi network from recognizing your device. This means you'll have to register every day or each time you come back after leaving the network. To be remembered and automatically logged in, you can disable the feature for this specific WiFi

Environment

  • Wi-Fi
  • Network
  • Dorms
  • eduroam

Resolution

Do not use Randomized MAC if provided that option. Use Phone MAC

Disable Randomization on Android

  1. Open Settings app
  2. Select Network and Internet
  3. Select WiFi
  4. Tap the next to the eduroam wifi connection
  5. Select Advanced
  6. Select Privacy
  7. Select Use device MAC

Disable Private Address Apple iOS 14 or higher

  1. Open Settings
  2. Tap Wi-Fi
  3. Tap button next to eduroam network
  4. Tap Private Address to turn if off

Disable Private Address Apple watch

  1. Open Settings
  2. Tap Wi-Fi
  3. Tap eduroam network
  4. Tap
  5. Tap Private Address to turn if off

Disable Private Address Windows 10

  1. Select the Start button in the bottom left corner of the screen
  2. Select the gear icon to go to Settings
  3. Select Network and Internet
  4. Select Wifi
  5. Set Use random hardware addresses to Off
