What is the correct way to dial a phone number from a Cisco phone

Environment

  • Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP)
  • Phones

Resolution

  1. For calls to other VoIP phones:
    1. Dial just the seven-digit phone number (example: 658-6000

Note: This also works for calling between VoIP sites (example: CCSF to USD, USD to SDSD)

  1. For all other calls within the United States:
    1. Dial 9-1-(area code) and the seven-digit phone number
    • Examples
      • Local: 9-1-605-677-1234
      • Long Distance: 9-1-212-222-1234
      • Toll-Free: 9-1-800-444-4444
  2. For International Calls
    1. Dial 9-011 and the phone number
    • Example
      • Disneyland Paris: 9-011-33-825-30-05-00
