Having Sound Issues on PC

Issue/Question

The sound on my pc is not working.

Cannot hear Voicemail

Sound is distorted on my laptop

During Zoom meetings, I can hear participants, but I cannot be heard

When trying to use Zoom I am getting the following error about my sound

     Error: Failed to detect your speaker please make sure your speaker is connected.

Environment

• Windows 7
• Windows 10

Cause

Corrupted driver

Volume control

Resolution

1. Turn power knob off and on
2. Turn Volume up
   Note:  If the above doesn't solve the issue, follow steps below.    

Reinstall Sound Driver

1. Open Device Manager
   1. Type Device Manager in search bar
   2. Select Device Manager
2. Click  next to Sound, video and game controllers
3. Right click device that is not working
   Note: This may be High Definition Audio Device, HD Webcam, or some other device
4. Select Uninstall
5. Click OK
6. Reboot
