Resolution

  1. Check your internet plan
  2. Test your internet connection by going to speedtest.net
    1. Click GO
      • 3 Mbps upload and 10 Mbps  download speeds are considered fast enough for typical work/school activities
        •  Maximum bandwidth consumption of Sending and Receiving Video:
          • High Definition Video: 2.5 Mbps  and 3.0 Mbps
          • High Quality Video: 1.0 Mbps  and 1.5 Mbps
          • Standard Quality Video: 0.5 Mbps  and 0.5 Mbps
  3. If you're using Wireless - Check your wireless signal strength
    1. Check if your laptop is equipped with wireless switch
    2. Connect wired if possible
  4. Do you have too many devices using up your internet speed?
    1. Remove all other devices from the Internet and run the speed test again
      1. Example of other devices to turn off
        • gaming devices
        • others working from home
        • streaming video devices
        • smart devices
          • Cell phones
          • home automation devices
  5. Reset modem and router by turning them off for 5 minutes and turn on again
  6. See if any other programs are congesting the connection
    1. For example, if you’re downloading files web browsing is going to be slower
    2. Close programs that you are not using
  7. Call your Internet Provider
    • If you’ve gone through all the troubleshooting and your internet is still slow, it’s time to call your internet provider and see if the problem is on their end
