EndNote Not Syncronizing Online Library After New Install

Issue/Question

  • After newly installing EndNote the program cannot sycronize the customers online EndNote library
  • My endnote does not link after installing Endnote
  • Need Help with Endnote

Environment

  • EndNote X9
  • EndNote 20
  • EndNote for Mac
  • EndNote for Windows

Cause

  • The .enl file cannot be found - not created yet
  • EndNote X9 not working after upgrade\install
  • EndNote prompts me for user name and password

Resolution

Previously used EndNote locally and do not need an online account:

  1. Open MS Office
    Note: must have EndNote app installed
  2. Click Endnote tab
  3. Click Preferences
  4. Click Application 
  5. Choose Endnote
    Note: Other option is Endnote online

For online Endnote account creation:

  1. Go to Endnote
  2. Sign in or Sign up to EndNote
    Note: Use USD credential to sign up
  3. Open EndNote
    Note:     Type username and password if prompted
  4. Click File
  5. Click New
  6. Name the library and click Save
  7. Click Tools
  8. Click Sync
