High Pitch Noise Emanating from a Network Closet

Issue/Question

There is a high pitched noise emanating from the Maintenance Room or Data Room

Solid red light or blinking red light on the UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply)

Environment

• Maintenance Room
• APC (American Power Conversion)
• UPS
• Battery Backup
• Surge Protector

Cause

Battery has failed on the UPS that provides power for the networking equipment in the network closet, data room, or maintenance room.

UPS has failed.

Resolution

1. Please do not press any buttons or unplug anything.
2. Contact the Service Desk with the following information:
   1. Building
   2. Room
   3. Approximate time that the noise started
