How do I live stream to Facebook Live or Youtube?

  • Open Broadcaster Software (OBS) 

Cause

Need to live stream to Facebook Live or Youtube

Resolution

  1. Install Open Broadcaster Software (OBS)
  2. Select Yes to the Auto-Configuration Wizard
  3. Select Optimize for streaming, recording is secondary
  4. Click Next
  5. Select the Streaming Service you will be using from the Service: dropdown
  6. On the streaming service site, setup your livestream:
    1. YouTube Livestream Setup instructions
    2. Facebook Livestream Setup Instructions
  7. Enter the Stream Key provided by your desired streaming service
  8. Click Next
  9. Click the  under Sources
  10. Select Video Capture Device
  11. Create a descriptive name for your device (ex.video camera)
  12. Click OK
  13. Select USB Capture+ HDMI under the device dropdown
  14. Click OK
  15. Click the  under Sources
  16. Select Audio Input Capture
  17. Click OK
  18. Choose the Microphone you are using in the dropdown
    1. If you are using a USB Microphone select AT2020 USB Microphone
    2. If you are using a microphone attached to your camera select HDMI (USB Capture HDMI+ Computer) 
    3. If you are using a 1/8" line in on the USB Capture Card select Mic (USB Capture HDMI+ Mic)
  19. Click Start Streaming
    Note: 
    If your streaming provider is set to automatically go live this will cause you to be broadcasting automatically.  Please only click this once you are sure you have it set to be able to preview a feed or you are ready to go live.
  20. If a recording is desired click Start Recording
  21. On your Facebook or YouTube Page, preview the feed, and if it looks good click Go Live
  22. When finished, click End Event or End Live Video on your YouTube or Facebook video
  23. Click Stop Streaming in OBS
