Unzipping or Extracting Zipped Files

Issue/Question

Downloaded zipped folders containing multiple files

I cannot open a zip file

I have some .tar and .gz files. Is there a way I can open those files?

Environment

• Windows
• 7-Zip

Cause

New course stored in compressed folders on website that needed to be usable after download

.7z files need to use 7Zip

Resolution

To Unzip a Single Zip File or Folder

1. Open the zipped folder
2. Drag the file(s) or folder(s) from the zipped folder to a new location

To Unzip All the Contents of the Zipped Folder

1. Right-click on the folder
2. Select Extract All 
3. Follow the on-screen instructions

Download and install 7-Zip from https://www.7-zip.org/ or ninite.com to expand .7z, .tar, and .gz files
