Cannot Sign Out of a Computer

Issue/Question

Unable to sign out by clicking the icon at the bottom

Unable to sign out when clicking on user name

When clicking on the user name, there is a spinning circle and then it goes away

Can only sign out by using CTRL+ALT+DEL or right clicking the icon

Environment

  • Microsoft Windows 10
  • Microsoft Windows 11

Cause

Windows menu issue

Resolution

  1. Locate the Windows Logo on the task bar 
  2. Right-click on the logo
  3. Hover mouse over Shut down or sign out
  4. Click on Sign out

Another way to sign out is to use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl-Alt-Delete and choose sign-out
