Making Panopto Video Publicly Accessible

How do I share a Panopto video with the public?

Environment

  • Panopto

Cause

Need to create a link to a video on a public site

Resolution

To Share a Single Video:

  1. Log in to Panopto
    • Select D2L Login if you are attempting to share videos created through a linked D2L Course Shell
    • Select USD Login if ITS has created a folder for you to use
  2. Navigate to the folder your video is in
  3. Hover over the Video thumbnail
  4. Click 
  5. Click Change under Who can access this video
    • ​​​​​​​Select Your Organization (Unlisted) if you only need the video accessible to people who have USD accounts.  They will need to log-in with their USD account to view the video
    • Select Public (Unlisted) if you need the video to be viewable by people without USD accounts
  6. Click Copy Link to copy the direct URL to your video for sharing on other sites

To Share All Videos in a Folder:

  1. Log in to Panopto
    • ​​​​​​​Select D2L Login if you are attempting to share videos created through a linked D2L Course Shell
    • Select USD Login if ITS has created a folder for you to use
  2. Navigate to the folder in question
  3. Click 
  4. Click Change under Who can access this folder
    • ​​​​​​​​​​​​​​Select Your Organization (Unlisted) if you only need the video accessible to people who have USD accounts.  They will need to log-in with their USD account to view the video
    • Select Public (Unlisted) if you need the video to be viewable by people without USD accounts
  5. Click Save
  6. Click Copy Link to copy the URL to that folder to the clipboard for sharing on other sites.
