Instructions

FTE represents an employee’s appointment as a percentage of full-time employment. The appropriate calculation depends on the employee’s appointment type.

Use the instructions below to determine the employee’s FTE, Hours Per Pay, and Hours Per Day for EPAF purposes.

Faculty Employees:

  1. For regular and benefit eligible faculty, FTE is based on the faculty member’s approved appointment and workload.  A full-time faculty workload is generally 30 workload units per academic year.
    1. A full-time faculty appointment is generally 1.00 FTE.
    2. Hours Per Pay = FTE x 173.33
    3. Hours Per Day = FTE x 8
  2. For Part-Time and Temporary Faculty, please refer to the Calculating ACA Hours from Credit Hours Article.

For staff employees, you will need to know the hours worked per week and the number of months in the appointment to begin the calculation:

  1. Hours worked per week/40 = Weekly Percent Effort
  2. Weekly Percent Effort * 173.33 = Hours Per Pay
    1. Weekly hours / 5 = Hours Per Day
  3. Hours Per Pay * number of months worked = Total hours worked in a year
  4. Total hours worked in a year / 2080 = FTE
