How do I use the Advanced Search feature to find students and create targeted student lists?

Searching for students using Advanced Search

Creating targeted student lists for communication and follow-up

Environment

  • Coyote Connections
  • Advanced Search feature

Resolution

The Advanced Search feature allows users to create curated lists of students for targeted communication and action

  1. Click the magnifying glass icon from the menu to open the Advanced Search feature
  2. Expand a search section by clicking the down arrow next to the section name
  3. Enter search criteria using available fields such as demographic information, categories, student groups, area of study, enrollment information, performance data, success indicators, or success team
  4. Select My Students Only to limit results to students assigned to you
  5. Leave the Include Inactive check box cleared to show active students only
  6. Select the Include Inactive check box to include inactive students in the results
  7. Click Search to display matching students
  8. Select Actions from the student list to send a message, create an appointment campaign, add a to-do, or add to a watch list
  9. Click Export to export the student list to Microsoft Excel

Common Searches

Viewing Current Students Who Are Not Registered for the Upcoming Semester

  1. Open the Enrollment History section
  2. Select the current term in Enrollment Terms (In Any of These)
  3. Click the + button next to the selected term field
  4. Select the upcoming term in Enrollment Terms (In None of These)
  5. Select My Students Only
  6. Click Search
    Note: 
    This search returns a list of your current students who have not registered for any credits for the upcoming semester.​​​​​​

 

Viewing Which of Your Advisees Should Have Completed a Degree Audit

  1. Open the Performance Data section
  2. Select the current semester
  3. Enter 70 in the Min. Credits Earned field
  4. Select My Students Only
  5. Click Search
    Note: This search returns students who have earned 70 or more credits and should have completed the application for graduation/degree audit form

Searching by Academic Program Information

  1. Open the appropriate search sections
  2. Enter criteria for college or school, major, or degree
  3. Click Search

Searching by Categories or Tags

  1. Open the appropriate search sections
  2. Select category criteria such as Academic Standing, Program Code, or Priority Registration Date
  3. Select tag criteria such as First Generation, Academic Probation, Academic Suspension, Dual Credit, First Year Students, Honors, International, Online, or Sioux Falls Campus
  4. Click Search

Searching by Grade Point Average

  1. Open the Performance Data section
  2. Enter the desired grade point average criteria
  3. Click Search

Viewing Class Rosters

  1. Open the Course Data section
  2. Select the desired term, course, section type, section, and status criteria
  3. Click Search
