Question

Windows 10 won't be supported after October 2025, what are our options for computers not running Windows 11?

Answer

Windows 10 is end of life on October 14, 2025. Microsoft will no longer provide support or updates to Windows 10 after that date.

ITS will be providing departments with inventory of computers that will not support Windows 11

We have a few options for computers running Windows 10:

  1. Upgrade to Windows 11:
    1. Computers that support Windows 11 will need to be upgraded by October 14, 2025
  2. Hardware Refresh:  Request to purchase new hardware
    1. Computers that do not support Windows 11 and are necessary for department operations will need to be replaced
    2. Computer that do not support Windows 11 and are no longer needed should be declared surplus hardware
  3. Extended Security Updates
    1. If upgrade or replacement is not feasible, Microsoft is also offering a paid support option to continue receiving critical security updates through October 14, 2028.  More info to come as it is available.
    2. IT approval will be needed to remain on Windows 10, even if purchasing Extended Security Updates.  Request form to come as we learn more about Extended Security Updates.
