Issue/Question

My Word program will not open

Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook all open but Word will not work

I cannot open my Microsoft Office programs as they are not working

Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel will not open from my taskbar

Microsoft Word for Mac says my USD account does not allow editing

Error: View Only  Your account doesn't allow editing on a Mac.

Environment

  • Microsoft Word
  • Microsoft Office 365
  • Microsoft Windows
  • macOS

Resolution

  1. Reboot the computer
  2. If a reboot does not solve the issue
    1. If using Microsoft Windows
      1. Press 
      2. Type Control Panel
      3. Open Control Panel
      4. Right click on Microsoft Office 365 ProPlus
      5. Select Change
      6. Click Quick Repair
      7. If the Quick Repair does not work, click Online Repair
      8. If the Online Repair does not work, please Re-install Office 365
    2. If using Mac OS
      1. Open Microsoft Word
      2. Click on Word in the menu bar
      3. Click on Sign Out...
      4. Click on Sign In
      5. Sign in with your USD email address and password
