- The underlying goal of an internship program should be to help interns develop necessary skills and competencies that will give them a strong professional presence in the workplace

When applying for internships, students must be able to answer the following questions:
- Are you looking for a paid opportunity or are you just looking for any experience?
- What do you hope to get out of an internship?
- Do you know what will be asked of you?
- What set of skills/competencies do you hope to work on with an internship (NACE competencies: Career & Self-Development, Communication, Critical Thinking, Equity & Inclusion, Leadership, Professionalism, Teamwork, Technology)?
- What are the benefits?
- What resources are provided for you by the internship?
- Short-term Goals? Long-term goals?
