Setting Up D2L Local Account Multi-Factor Authentication(MFA)/Two-Factor Authentication(2FA)

Issue/Question

How to Setup Multi-Factor Authentication(MFA)/Two-Factor Authentication(2FA) for Desire2Learn Dept Head or Administrative accounts

Environment

  • Desire2Learn(D2L)
  • DuoMobile

Cause

Desire2Learn Admin and Dept Head accounts with elevated permissions requires 2FA/MFA be setup on the account

Resolution

 

  1. Log into D2L with local login
  2. You are presented with a QR code to scan within the Duo app
    Note: If you are unable to see the QR Code when you login, Please contact the Service Desk 
  3. Open the Duo app on your phone and touch +Add near the top
  4. Scan the QR code on the screen within the Duo app
    Note: Name it something so you will know it is for D2L
  5. Enter the 6-digit number shown from the new instance within Duo
  6. Click Check Code
    Note: You can record the long string of characters below the QR code as that is your "personal code" and it can be used to set up Duo again if needed. 
  7. Check the box next to I've backed up my code
  8. Click Enable Authenticator
  9. This will forward to a page requesting the 6-digit code from that new instance for this account in Duo
  10. Click Submit
