Heating/Cooling in Residence Halls

Question

Why isn't my heater working?

Why isn't my air conditioner working?

When will the heat be turned on this fall?

When will the air conditioning be turned on this spring?

Answer

  1. The heating and cooling systems on campus are only able to run one temperature function at a time. If you are experiencing uncomfortable temperatures for a short time during transitional seasons, it is most likely because the systems have not been changed for the upcoming season.
    • Note: If your temperature regulation unit is malfunctioning during stable temperature times, please contact your RA to submit a facilities management work order
  2. The time that the heating system is turned off or restored is determined based on the average temperature in Vermillion during the transition seasons. These systems are changed on a priority basis, beginning with residence halls. A campus-wide email will be sent to notify students when these systems are being changed.
    • Note: University Housing does not determine when these systems are switched
