Posting Flyers in the Dorms

Question

Can I hang posters for my club/event in the residence halls?

How can I get posters approved for the residence halls?

What are the posting guidelines for the residence halls?

Answer

  1. Student organizations and other university affiliated entities may post advertisements in the residence halls, but they must first be approved by staff in the central housing office, located in North Commons 100
  2. For posters to be approved, they must fulfill the posting guidelines set forth by University Housing's Community Living Policies. Following approval, University Housing will accept up to 6 printed posters to be displayed in the front lobbies of each of the residence halls. Flyers will not be posted on residence hall floors.
    • Note: University Housing suggests either emailing a PDF of the poster or printing a single copy to be evaluated for approval in order to minimize cost if the posting were to not meet the standards set forth by University Housing.
  3. The posting guidelines for the residence halls are :
    • Description of event/activity/service as well as date/time/location of the event
    • Identification of the sponsoring organization or department via logo or statement of sponsorship
    • Whether there is any charge for the event
    • Contact person's name and phone number or e-mail address
    • The poster should be no larger than 24” X 36”
    • Posting materials must be submitted no later than 5 business days prior to the desired posting date
  4. If any of these requirements are not met, postings will not be accepted until necessary changes have been made. University Housing approved postings will receive a stamp with signature and valid posting date. It is recommended that an approximately 1”x3” space be left blank for this stamp. If a space is not available, staff will attempt to mark postings in a way that is minimally intrusive on the poster. A digital version of this stamp may be obtained by request to Housing@usd.edu.

Note: Only residence hall staff in their capacity as a staff member may post materials and items found posted that are not approved will be removed immediately and could result in conduct proceedings.
