Cleaning Point of Sale (POS) Screen
Cleaning Point of Sale (POS) Screen
Question
How to clean POS touch screen
Answer
Use a lint free micro-fiber cleaning cloth or soft towels
Do not use abrasive cleaners (powders) or abrasive cleaning materials (scrub brush, scouring pad, etc.)
Never dry with paper towels, facial tissues, or abrasive cloth. These items can cause tiny scratches in the touch screen. Always use a dry, clean, microfiber cloth to gently dry the screen
Wipe the display gently with a dry cloth that is soft and lint-free first
Use distilled water or touch screen cleaner (
70% isopropyl alcohol
)
Spray the cleaner onto the cleaning cloth/towel first and then wipe the surface to be cleaned
Do not spray cleaners directly onto the equipment.
Never use ammonia-based glass cleaners, such as Windex
The ammonia will destroy the screen membrane and cause permanent discoloration. In more severe cases, it will result in touch screens not working appropriately
The cleaning cloth/towel should be damp but not soaked/dripping wet
The surface of the equipment should quickly air dry and inn very humid environments a clean dry cloth/towel can be used to quickly dry the equipment
Do not soak the electronic equipment with cleaning liquid
Wipe the display surface in a circular motion to remove any dirt or residue from the touch glass
Apply only slight, gentle pressure as you wipe the touch screen. The circular motion will ensure that any streaking is reduced as much as possible.
The system can be left powered on when cleaning surfaces
The cashier should be logged out of the POS application while cleaning
Errant touch inputs are expected and normal during cleaning of touch screens while the touch screen remains wet
Cleaning Frequency
Recommend cleaning at the end of each shift
