Opening in older versions of Word

Question

What is the difference when opening files in an older version of word?

How can I open documents in an older version of Word?

Answer

If you have an older version of office and are trying to open a Word 2010 file (ending in .docx rather than .doc), you will need to download and install a Microsoft Compatibility Pack.

Please note that when using the compatibility pack, you may note see the Word document exactly as it was made. This is because Microsoft 2016 has more features than the older versions of Word and these new features cannot be displayed in past versions.

You can download a free Compatibility Pack from Microsoft at the following addresses:

  1. Microsoft
  2. Dummies or Dummies 2
  3. Word 2010 Tutorials
  4. To the PC
