Question
How do I insert on Word?
Answer
On the Insert tab, you will find the commands you’ll need to insert items into your Word document. You can utilize this tab to insert tables, Pictures, Clip Art, Shapes, etc.
Insert Shapes
- Select the Insert tab
- Select Shapes,
- Click on whatever shape you wish to insert
Insert Connectors
A connector is a line that has connection points at the ends of the line and stays connected to the shapes that you attach it to. The three types of connectors are straight, elbow (angled), and curved. When you rearrange shapes that are joined with connectors, the connectors remain attached to and move with the shapes. If you move either end of a connector, that end detaches from the shape, and you can then attach it to another connection site on the same shape or attach it to another shape. After the connector attaches to a connection site, the connector stays connected to the shapes no matter how you move each shape.
In Word 2016, you need to insert a drawing canvas before you can draw shapes and add connectors to those shapes. To insert a drawing canvas, on the Insert tab, in the Illustrations group, click Shapes, and then click New Drawing Canvas.
- Insert the shapes you desire to connect within your Drawing Canvas
- Now choose a connector shape. Have your mouse hover over one of the shapes you wish to connect. You should notice red dots appear.
- Click once on one of those dots. The line will attach itself to the select red dot. Don’t worry if the line doesn’t appear to have connected to your red dot, sometimes you must finish connecting it to a second point before it snaps into place.
- As you start to drag your line (done in the next step), don’t be worried if it almost looks as if a second line is being made. Again, sometimes you must finish connecting it to a second point before it snaps into place.
- Drag the other end of your connector over to the second object, and you should see red dots appear. Drag the end to one of those red dots and then release your mouse.
