Impact of Dropping a Course for High School Dual Credit Students

Question

How will a drop affect my GPA, future dual credit, or college plans?

Answer

  1. If you drop the course before the last day to add/drop courses, your course will be removed from your transcript and a refund will be issued
    1. View the academic calendar to see when the last day to drop your course is
  2. If you drop the course after the add/drop date but before the last day to drop with a withdraw (WD), you will be dropped from the course to earn a withdrawal (WD).
Note: This will not affect your grade point average (GPA) but you will not receive a refund
    1. View the academic calendar to see when the last day to withdrawal with a WD is
    2. If you have a WD on your college transcript, you will be unable to continue taking dual credit courses unless an Eligibility Exemption petition form is approved
    3. The WD will remain on your high school and college transcript but has no effect on your GPA
    4. Students attending an institution in the South Dakota Board of Regents can only have six total withdrawals. Dual Credit withdrawals count toward this maximum college withdrawal number. Withdrawals after the six allowed will be listed as an Fail on the college transcript.
  3. If you drop a course after the last day to drop with a WD, you will receive an F in the course and will not receive a refund.
    1. If you receive an F in your dual credit course, you are unable to continue taking dual credit courses unless an Eligibility Exemption petition form is approved
    2. The F will remain on your high school and college transcript and will impact your GPA
