Question

What are the question settings in Qualtrics?

What is included in the Question Behavior setting of Qualtrics?

Answer

Each question type has specific question settings found to the left of the survey.
For Example: Multiple Choice has settings for answer type, choices, format, and response requirements.

  • Answer Type will let you choose if participants can make one selection or multiple.
  •  Choices, will let you choose how many answers are under the question.
  • Format determines how the question will look, either as a list, or with a drop down.
  • Response requirements deals with whether a participant will be allowed to skip a question, or required to answer it. Under this option you can also choose if they have to select more then one answer.

All of the question types contain the Question Behavior setting.

  • Add Display Logic: By using this function, a survey has the ability to display questions only if certain conditions are met such as a participant answering yes to a previous question.
  • Add Skip Logic: If a participant does not enter a certain answer for a question and this disqualifies them as a participant in the survey, adding skip logic moves the participant directly to the end of the survey after completing this question.
  • Carry forward choices: This allows you to copy specific answer choices from one question and bring them into a future question in your survey.
  • Choice Randomization: This allows you to randomize the order of the choices for that question.
  • Recode Values: The recode value is the numeric value of a choice. By default, the first answer choice will have a recode value of 1, the second choice 2, and so forth, even if you remove answer choices or change the answer choice order. This button allows you to change the coded value.
  • Default Choices: this allows you to pre-populate answer choices within a question when the respondent opens the survey. This can be useful in situations when you ask respondents to update previously collected data, such as mailing address, email, name, etc.
  • JavaScript: JavaScript is a programming language that enables you to accomplish more advanced functionality in your survey than would otherwise be available
