Page Numbers Not Displaying Correctly in Word

Issue/Question

Page Numbers showing as { PAGE \* MERGEFORMAT } in Word with Endnote installed.

Environment

• Microsoft Word 365
• Windows 10
• Microsoft Office 365
• Endnote

Cause

Word and Endnote conflict or Word format issue.

Resolution

1. Press Alt+F9 to show field codes
2. The page number field will show up as either { PAGE } or { PAGE \* MERGEFORMAT } in a grey highlight
3. Replace this with { PAGE \# 0# }
4. Press Alt+F9 again to return to field values
